If you were to ask me, I’m not exactly sure we got started with our fascination with resorts.
In the beginning, there wasn’t any real desire to visit a resort. Back then in 2008, we had barely worked for over a year. Langkawi Lagoon Resort was a convenient and affordable trip for a short getaway. It was nothing too fanciful, other than being a studio suite that sits on stilts, over the water.
Next, we dropped by Japamala Resort, where I executed my secret plan and proposed to Shan. Despite the shortcomings of the aging property, we were totally won over by the exceptional level of service provided by the staff.
I had to go back again, and we did – two years later. For our pre-wedding photoshoot!
In between the two Nikoi visits, Alila Cha-Am was sheer delight.
I can’t really explain why we absolutely love these places. Perhaps it is because we could truly indulge ourselves, even if it was only for a day or two. Or was it the impeccable service?!
A couple of years ago, there was a series on Channel News Asia titled Paradise Asia, which basically introduced some of the most amazing resorts in Asia. Maybe that was the catalyst that led us to seek out our very own paradise.
We were seduced by what we would come to know as Six Senses and Aman Resorts. Slowly, but surely, we’re getting there, experiencing Paradise in Asia. Meanwhile, there is an Alila Uluwatu visit to look forward to, in April 2012 =)
