[Singapore] Quincy Hotel Staycation
Dropped by Quincy Hotel for our very first staycation experience in Singapore. We have heard and read about the rave reviews on TripAdvisor, but we had to try it for ourselves! Well, we were definitely not disappointed.
At the time of writing, Quincy Hotel sits on a pretty good rank of #15 amongst Singapore hotels. Also, they have plaque which they proudly displays on their reception counter – the winner of TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice 2012 Trendiest Hotel in Asia.
Check-in was a breeze – fast and efficient. We received a letter from the reception staff with the names of our hosts.
At the ground floor, there were iMac Stations for the guests to access the internet, along with a selection of newspapers.
Rosa brought us up to our room – 705. The lift lobby area looks sleek and clean. One thing I have to mention though – the lift seemed kind of cranky in the sense that there was a rather obvious mechanical sounding noise when it was in use. Not very assuring, eh?
The corridor was actually not as brightly lit – I adjusted the brightness so it could be illustrated better. There are only rooms on the right side of the corridor.
Instead of swiping our room cards, we simply had to tap it on the door to unlock it. Upon entering the room, slot it into the card holder and power would be activated.
Plenty of natural light comes in through the spacious 26-sqm room!
Conveniently located by the bed side is a master switch, as well as the controls to activate the mechanical blinds. A decent selection of cable channels are available.
The luxurious work area for the business traveller.
Plenty of power plugs, an excellent thought since most people have one or more gadgets these days. The iPhone dock doubles as a radio and alarm clock.
The air-conditioner controls don’t really seem to work. Adjusting the temperature don’t seem to do anything and the room gets pretty chilly after some time. We actually switched it off, and all was well. However, the floor tiles are extremely cold, so wear your slippers!
Free wifi comes with every room. If you need a LAN-connection, the LAN wire is provided for you as well.
The standard collection of envelopes, notepad and letterheads provided by Quincy Hotel.
The mini bar is complimentary, meaning we could eat and drink to our hearts’ content. For our staycation, we booked a Qool Weekend staycation package which included a bottle of red wine.
The wardrobe comes with the usual amenities – umbrella, iron, bathrobe, torch, shoe shine, hairdryer and slippers.
The safe is hidden in the bottom slot. The safe is actually pretty large in size – enough to hold a DSLR camera. Also, an extremely good design choice in that a power socket is available in the safe! One could keep a gadget in the safe and charge it at the same time.
The bathroom is spacious and brightly lit, helped by the huge mirror.
Molten Brown toiletry kit – pure bliss!
TOTO W.C. and rain shower! The floor in the dry-area could get a little slippery when wet, so please use the floor mat and stay safe
Last but not least, a bathtub for the bubble bath. Let’s make good use of the Molten Brown kit, shall we? The hot water comes on pretty fast for both the rain shower and the bath tub.
If you noticed, the glass panel separating the bed and the bath tub are semi-transparent. Hmm, maybe watch some TV as you indulge in a bubble bath?
Even the humble toilet roll gets the Quincy touch. I love hotels and resorts that gives attention to the details.
The infinity pool, gym, sauna and steam room are all located on the 12th floor of Quincy Hotel. The pool and gym are open 24-hours, but the sauna and steam room are not. The pool isn’t that huge and is probably 10-metres in length? It gave a pretty good view when we’re in it, but the water-stained glass needs a little cleaning and maintenance.
Clean towels and chilled bottles of drinks are available by the poolside. They have thought of everything, didn’t they? The sauna and steam room were pretty relaxing too! Give them a try when you’re there?
We had three complimentary meals as part of the Qool Weekend Deal we booked through Quincy Hotel. Overall, the food was satisfactory and the service was great. Special mention for the cocktail hours from 6pm to 8pm – guests could have all the liquid fuel and booze they need for the night!
Breakfast is buffet style – the selection of food is not huge, but they are fine by our standards. You may also request for any type of eggs you’d like to have. Various juices and free-flow of coffee are available.
For each meal at Quincy Hotel, we get to pick from the list of items from the menu-of-the-day. While we waited for our order, we helped ourselves to the mini-buffet consisting of salads, soup, bread, juices, canned drinks and ice-cream. Depending on the time of the day, different items are available.
Lunch – Beef Sandwich and Chicken Teriyaki Burger.
Oops, forgot to take a picture of the burger.
Dinner – Fish & Chips and Seafood Risotto.
There are a couple of things which could be better, for sure. The floor tiles were cold to the touch. The faulty hairdryer which we requested for a replacement, but ultimately did not appear. The soundproofing might be inadequate for light-sleepers. Once in a while, we could hear doors slamming when in the room.
Based on our experience, these were not deal-breakers. We had a lovely stay at Quincy Hotel and would recommend it as a good choice for a staycation in Singapore. Quincy Hotel projects a trendy and modern image and tries to inject a personal touch when dealing with guests. Service at Quincy Hotel, which ranks as my top criteria, is fantastic. Sadly, we did not get to try the Bread Pudding Baking Class as the chef was sick. Otherwise, it would have been a much more memorable stay.
