[Singapore] Rendezvous Hotel – Superior Room

Shan and myself were at Rendezvous Hotel last weekend to help out and attend the wedding of two good friends of ours. As chance would have it, it was the exact day that I had gotten together with Shan, 99 month ago. Thus, we decided to stay a night at the hotel as a minor celebration!

In the heart of the civic, cultural and commercial district, the hotel is just a three minute walk to famed Orchard Road and close to Little India, Arab Street and Bugis Junction.

Rendezvous Hotel is located conveniently near Orchard Road and other tourists hot-spots, which is good news for travellers. Alighting via taxi, we stepped into the newly renovated hotel, which looked modern and chic in white.

Both on the ground floor of the hotel, Straits Cafe and Palong Bar serve as the main dining options. In addition, there is a hotel pool and a fitness centre to round up the facilities.

Opening the door to our Superior Room, we were greeted with a warm and inviting sight. Although there is no view to speak of, the room is clean and cozy. The bed is very comfortable indeed! (pay more to upgrade to a Deluxe room, and you’ll get bath-robes, slippers, and a better view)

A decent-size illuminated wardrobe with an in-built safe sits at a corner of the room. Standard items like an iron and ironing board are available.

A simple working desk is provided. Lighting isn’t fantastic in the room, so you’ll have to rely on the desk lamp.

Problem #1 – quite a number of the power sockets aren’t working in the room – like the one shown in the picture here. This could be a little of an inconvenience for travellers requiring a constant power supply for their laptops and gadgets. In fact, we found another power socket in the room that wasn’t working as well.

The TV is mounted on the wall, with the mini-bar under it.

Interestingly, we found “adult entertainment” available on the TV menu, if you’re willing to pay to for it. Guess I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to this aspect – since when is this allowed in squeaky clean Singapore?! Parents, beware too!

Typical mini-bar beverage!

Comfort items like instant coffee and tea.

A little chair by the side of the window for placing personal items.

On the bedside table, there is a universal controller for controlling the temperature and morning alarm, among other things. Pretty useful in my opinion!

The bathroom is sufficient and well-stocked.

Complimentary bottled water is not provided in the room, because tap water in Singapore is potable! Still, having bottled water would be a nice gesture.

The toilet bowl is tucked nicely behind the door when the door is opened.

Hair-dryer is provided too!

No bathtub in the shower area, no rain-shower either.

Problem #2 – it got a little frustrating when trying to get the optimal water temperature.
It was too hot at first, then too cold, and then too hot, and then ..

All in all, Rendezvous Hotel is a pretty nice hotel to stay in. It may have its flaws, but the place is clean and safe. The room is decent in size, and the hotel has a pretty good location if you ask me. Positioned as a business hotel, Rendezvous Hotel definitely serves as a no-frills, hassle-free option. If you’re on a airline frequent flyer programme such as KrisFlyer or Qantas Frequent Flyer, you can earn additional miles along the way!
